The Indian Carbon Society was formed in 1979 with ten founder members including Late Prof. B.R. Puri and Late Dr S.S. Chari who were the pioneer in visualizing the need of such a society. Ever since many other stalwarts have taken it forward and to day the society boasts of 650 life members and more than 23 corporate houses dealing mainly in carbon and allied products.
The Society has distinguished itself in promoting Carbon research and development in the country and disseminating the latest developments in carbon science and technology as well as future prospects by holding Seminars, Conferences, Workshops and Refresher courses.
These have also been aimed to bring together academia, young researchers, subject experts and industry on a common platform to share their experiences in conventional and novel carbon products and keeping them abreast with latest developments globally in the field of carbon science and technology.
Over the years the ICS has organized more than 30 National /International conferences, Refresher courses, Workshops etc. on specific topics keeping in view the industrial and strategic interests of the country. The society also encourages student participation in the above events by providing travel allowance to them.
